Balfour Beatty is currently recruiting a CAD Technician to join the Power T&D team in Scotland.

We are open to both full time and part time candidates (including job share), and offer a flexible working policy.

About the Role

Liaise with Site Operative & Design team to produce a variety of drawings for the delivery of Overhead Line Project.

The job will initially be based in our Main Office in Motherwell until a New Project is up and running near Elgin where the applicant will work from for the duration of the project.

What you'll be doing

Key Accountabilities

To deliver to the Operations & Design department the satisfactory production of Bellmouth Layouts, Construction Site Layouts, Access & Route Maps, Stage by stage plans & General arrangement drawings to enable a safe and secure solution in accordance with BIM & client specification. To also manage drawings files in BIM & be responsible for issuing drawings to the Client. Site visits will be expected to record surveys for drawing production. Reports to the Design Team Leader.

Key Responsibilities

  • As a CAD Technician under a Design Team Leader to support drawing production for a major project.
  • Understand the requirements of contract documents and liaise with Senior/ Principal Design engineers as necessary to agree design requirements.

Be part of a team to deliver project specific drawings at a high standard and accuracy in accordance to client specification and BIM requirements & across all departments.

  • Work on your own & as part of a team, be willing and able to share technical ability, knowledge to other members of the team whilst being keen to learn new skill sets.
  • To produce a verity of drawings for the construction of stone access roads as outlined above.
  • Be able to carry out on site surveys to aid drawing production.
  • To be flexible to ensure that deliverable timescales are met.
  • Have the ability to self-check own work prior to approval stage and issue drawings to Doc control Via BIM.
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings and consider ways to constantly improve CAD delivery in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.
  • Drive a Safety by Design approach at all times.

Clients, Consultants, CDM Principal Designers (internal and external), Third Parties (Network Rail, Highways agency, etc.), Sub-Contractors etc.

Who we're looking for

Preferred Qualifications

  • HNC/HND (or equivalent) Computer Aided Draft & Design.
  • Proficient using the industry design software AutoCAD.
  • Full driving licence with access to vehicle.

General Experience

  • Previous experience of acting as a CAD Technician in an Engineering environment.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of Autodesk AutoCAD.
  • Ability to use and process international geographic datasets.
  • Working under a BIM environment.

GIS & Autodesk Civil 3D experience would be beneficial.
