To help with the internal management and approvals for the Gate process and relationships with other parts of Balfour Beatty.

What you'll be doing

As a Commercial Manager in the secure and ever-expanding infrastructure industry, you'll:

  • Be responsible for commercial strategy on tenders and opportunities, linking risk and commercial terms and coming up with innovative solutions.
  • Negotiation of contract conditions and documents, including joint venture agreements.
  • Review and negotiation for ITAs, including review of the main contract, identification and negotiation of the split of risks and obligations within it between the two BB entities.
  • Warranty Review and negotiation.
  • Checks on customers and partners: utilising Dow Jones, Credit Insurer, Companies House and internet searches.
  • Working with BB Legal to draft tender conditions.
  • Presenting commercial issues through Gate papers in order to secure the necessary approvals.
  • Manage the tender risk and opportunities registers through co-ordination with the work winning team members.
  • Work with the Design, Estimating and Procurement team to achieve the most appropriate procurement approach for each project.

Who we're looking for

Essential qualities / experience:

  • An organised, innovative, creative and experienced Commercial Manager with experience of working on and putting together proposals of nature and size within the BBLP/BBGE pipeline.
  • Someone who is innovative in the way risks and opportunities can be managed through commercial terms.
  • A good understanding of commercial agreements (joint venture agreements, contracts and internal trading agreements), and the ability to work with legal on their drafting.
  • Excellent time management skills (to get things done to a high standard very quickly).
  • An awareness of the quality assurance process for proposals before they are issued to the client.
  • Resilience and a determination to succeed to cope with the challenges and frustrations of a bidding environment.

Desired qualities:

  • Experience of highway infrastructure maintenance and scheme delivery and piling or other similar engineering disciplines.
  • Qualifications: Degree level or equivalent in an engineering or associated discipline relative to the role
