This role will be based at Raynesway, Derby three days per week with flexible working from home offered and will involve some travel between projects to develop knowledge and stakeholder engagement during critical stages of the projects.

What you'll be doing

The role will be primarily accountable for the management of the end-to-end procurement activities for the sourcing of subcontracts and materials for National Grid Power Transmission and Distribution Substation business for England and Wales. This may also be extended to support on other contracts in the Business Unit such as overhead line and buried cable projects.

The position will report to Procurement Manager and work closely with Head of Procurement, Commercial, Work Winning and Operations to provide support.

Activities will include preparation of RFQs, management and evaluation of returns, and making sourcing recommendations to award contracts. The individual will be required to: lead elements of collecting and analysing internal and external data, contribute to periodic management reports, manage specific supply chains within the divisions to monitor performance and drive continuous improvement to support Project
and Business Unit key objectives, ensuring compliance to internal policies and procedures at all times.

The role has a requirement to build upon existing supply chain capacity and expertise, develop relationships with new suppliers where appropriate and embed collaborative working both with the estimating and project teams, as well as the supply chain.

Who we're looking for

The following experience/qualifications would benefit this role: -

  • Good understanding of how to run end to end procurement projects from market research, through sourcing, to contract and supplier management
  • Results orientated with the ability to plan and deliver against bid / project milestones
  • Some experience in negotiating commercial deals and contractual terms and conditions
  • Problem solving skills, ability to use own initiative to identify areas of improvement & propose solutions.
  • Demonstrates strong written and verbal skills.
  • Able to prioritise with support a challenging workload of competing priorities
  • Commercially and financially aware with well-developed negotiating skills;
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Thinks creatively and pragmatically to apply commercial good practice to solve business problems
  • Able to quickly learn and work with new processes and IT systems
  • Customer focussed
  • Knowledge of the construction/civils market
  • Experience held in any previous or current roles such as estimating/ tendering, sales (Builders Merchants) or quantity surveying.
  • Experience of Oracle R12 and Jaeger Bravo would be an advantage OR knowledge of any other similar ERP system or e-tendering portal.
  • MCIPS / studying towards CIPS / equivalent qualifications or experience

The following experience is desirable:

  • A minimum of 3 years experience working on National Grid Substations OR minimum 5 years buyer level experience of procurement processes within a utilities power sector including working with both material suppliers and subcontractors.
