About the role

Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a General Operative to join our Regional Civils East Business to work in the Yorkshire & Humber and North East geographical areas on civil engineering and infrastructure projects. The works will predominantly involve undertaking groundworks, drainage operations, paving & kerbing.

What you'll be doing

To work efficiently and safely whilst carrying out duties issued by the designated Foreman / Supervisor.

What you'll be doing

You will have the following accountabilities:

  • To ensure the works are carried out in the most efficient and safe manner;
  • Demonstrate positive attitude and behaviour towards safety and others;
  • Follow company/manufacturers procedures to ensure standards are met;
  • Ensure maintenance/inspection checks are carried out, reports are correctly completed on time and submitted;
  • Ensure relevant task briefings have been carried out prior to tasks undertaken;
  • Be pro-active and think ahead by working closely with Gangers & Supervisors;
  • Actively & positively participate in Daily Activity Briefings and all relevant team briefings;
  • Good understanding and knowledge of different processes and equipment;
  • Be prepared to work overtime/flexible on breaks as required;
  • Be able to contribute good ideas for business improvement;
  • Willingness to teach others and share knowledge when necessary;
  • Constant collaboration with relevant team members and Site Staff;
  • On taking instructions, if unsure always question and learn.
  • Display a positive attitude and show willingness with good timekeeping and reliability.

Who we're looking for

The following qualities/experience are essential:

  • Good communication skills (to all levels including Supervisors);
  • Ability to work as part of a team;
  • Proactively challenge and be challenged where appropriate;
  • Knowledge of using and clear understanding of work package plans, method statements, procedures, risk assessments and site specific rules (including lift plans);
  • CSCS card and ideally CPCS card;
  • Multi-skilled (for example Plant/Vehicle Marshal, Manual Handling, etc);
  • Qualified Industrial/ Counterbalance and Telehandler operative;
  • Relevant manufacture/supplier training where required.

The following qualities/experience are desirable:

  • Multi-skilled (for example First Aid, MEWP, Fire Marshal, Plant/Vehicle Marshal, CPCS Roller/Dumper/Excavator).
