About the role

Balfour Beatty have a fantastic opportunity to join their team as a Health, Safety and Environment Director, providing inspirational leadership and setting the highest standards for our rapidly growing Power business.

This role is a key part of the HS&E Senior Leadership Team and will collaborate with the both Managing Directors and Senior Business Leaders to develop and deliver Balfour Beattys Build to Last and Zero Harm agenda.

Driving the development and implementation of the Power business's HS&E strategy through a period of rapid strategic growth will be an integral part of this role.

Balfour Beatty operate a smart working policy meaning that this role could be based from anywhere in the UK with travel when required.

What you'll be doing

  • Lead the development and implementation of Power Build to Last and Zero Harm Strategies, and drive continuous improvement in HS&E performance.
  • Development of Business Unit level HS&E business plans and the delivery, review and monitoring of performance goals.
  • Lead the HS&E team supporting the business, and manage the resource allocation and deployment.
  • Support and work with the leaders of the business to develop a culture of high performance and continuous improvement both within the business and with supply chain partners.
  • Create an effective community of practice amongst the HS&E managers to ensure knowledge sharing and collaboration.
  • Ensure development and procurement of appropriate training and development to build capability in health and safety across the business.
  • Ensure business unit zero harm priorities, performance and innovations are reflected in tender responses.
  • Oversee Principal Investigation reviews and ensure lessons learned are embedded driving continual improvements.

Who we're looking for

  • Proven experience at senior management level and/or H&S Director level.
  • Proven track record of sustained positive H&S change.
  • Good understanding of occupational health and wellbeing as well as H&S.
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly and to develop high a performance team.
  • Excellent relationship management skills and strong personal impact and influencing skills.
  • Ability to work across competing priorities and varied groups to develop solutions to complex operational and commercial problems.
  • Significant proven experience in complex multi-stakeholder environments developing collaborative relationships at all levels.
  • Experience of a changing culture through leadership, coaching and mentoring at all levels within the organisation alongside a focus of continuous improvement.
  • Experience of the Infrastructure / Construction Industry.
  • NEBOSH Diploma/ NVQ Level 4 / NCRQ Diploma or equivalent.
  • Corporate Membership of IOSH or ability to obtain quickly.
